Simplicity Makeup

I give makeup lessons at The Still Point. Often women say that their goal is to know how to wear makeup, without looking like they do. I’m a fan of clean, natural, fresh-looking makeup. Don’t get me wrong; I do have fun doing avant-garde, dramatic makeup, especially for creative photo shoots or events. But for every day, most people want to look effortlessly attractive.

So here are some tips I give my clients to get that fresh glowy look.

1) Always prepare your skin first, by cleansing, toning and moisturizing. If you get into the habit, you’ll have a head-start on achieving naturally healthy skin before makeup touches your face.

2) Choosing the right foundation for your skin. The perfect one should conceal dark circles under the eyes and even out your skin tone. My advice is to stop using conventional makeup products containing harsh synthetic chemicals that essentially cause blemishes, redness and discoloration. You would be surprised at the difference in the look and feel of your skin if you make the switch to eco-organic cosmetics. Plus, you won’t need to use so much makeup to cover the imperfections. Your goal is to highlight and illuminate your complexion, not to look like you’re wearing a mask.

3) There are wonderful eco-organic cosmetic lines available now as more people become aware of the impact of toxic chemicals on our bodies and on the environment. One of my favorite foundation bases is called “un” cover up by RMS Beauty. It’ s a non-toxic lightweight base that actually heals and soothes your skin. Use it sparingly, blend it carefully, and I can guarantee that it will look like your skin, only better!

4) For the finishing touch, take a large blush brush, swirl it into Aphrodite bronzer by Julie Hewett, and sweep it across your cheekbones, forehead and chin.

5) Add a sheer lip-gloss and one coat of mascara, and in less than ten minutes, you’ll be ready to put your best face forward!
