Upon rising, our bodies may be a little stiff and we may need a jump start. Consider doing some morning stretches before getting out of bed. A few stretches will get your circulation flowing, your organs massaged and your heart strengthened.
1. While lying on your back, stretch your arms above your head and keep your legs straight and toes pointed. Take a few deep diaphragm breaths (into your belly and up to your chest), while pulling in opposite directions. Relax for a few seconds and repeat 2 times.
2. While lying on your back, bend one knee up to your chest and allow it to slowly drop across the front of your body and touch the bed on the opposite side. Take a few deep diaphragm breaths and twist to your maximum. Switch to the other knee and repeat.
3. While lying on your back, pull both knees up to your chest, wrap your arms around them and hold them tightly against your body, lift your head and put your nose between your knees. Do 30 seconds of Fire Breaths (breathing into your belly and quickly exhaling through your mouth, by pumping your navel in and out.)
4. While lying on your back, pull both knees up to your chest, wrap your arms around them and hold them tightly against your body. Turn slowly onto your right side and rest for a minute or two.
These stretches will help start your day in a centered, balanced and calm way.
I incorporate stretching in most of my massage sessions, so schedule an appointment today and let me do all the work for you.
Be well!
