Do you remember bath time when you were a kid? I remember my mom saying “It’s time for your bath,” normally right before bed. This was a time not only to get clean, but to play in the water for awhle. I believe it was a time for my Mom to get a little extra work done while I was confined to the bathtub. I used to stay in there so long, the water got cold and my skin withered up like a prune. Of course I didn’t complain because I was splashing around and playing with toys.
Today taking a bath is something I look forward to a couple of times per week, especially after a long day of work. It’s very relaxing and meditative for me, and it helps with sore, tired muscles and as a stress reliever.
Normally I dry brush my skin before my bath to help with lymph flow and circulation– it also stimulates the muscles to release tightness. It’s great for me to take a bath in the evening because I feel tired and ready for bed afterwards. I often recommend baths to clients after a massage to help with muscle soreness and to help with the relaxation process.
The next time you are feeling sore or need to relax and relieve some stress, take a soothing hot bath to help ease away some tension. Its best to add a bath salt or you can simply use Epsom salt and your favorite essential oil. Take a few deep breaths, let go and leave the tension behind. Ahhh!!! Relax and soak for about 15 to 20 minutes.
A gentle stretch afterwards while your muscles are warm, helps to loosen them more. Be sure to use an oil or lotion to moisturize your skin and drink a little extra water to rehydrate afterwards. Some of my favorite bath salts are Sage Purification or Botanical Dead Sea Soak by The Body Deli and Ginger Snap and Mellow Yellow Bath Salts by Joyful Bath Company. Be Well!
