Here Comes The Bride

Daily Candy recently featured my eco-wedding makeup services in their Spring 2011 wedding guide, http://www.dailycandy.com/washington-dc/article/99995/Washington-DC-Spring-2011-Wedding-Guide. Thanks to them, I’ve had many brides contacting me to book a “trial run” in preparation for their big day.

When I first meet with a bride, I ask many questions before doing her makeup. I need to know what time the wedding is and if it will be indoor or outdoor. If it’s an outdoor wedding in the middle of the day, I’d probably do the makeup a little softer and more natural than if it was an indoor evening event. I also ask her to describe her dress and how she’ll wear her hair. I’m interested in the overall esthetic of the bridal party. What color will the flowers and bridesmaids dresses be? The more information I have, the more it helps me with designing her makeup look. During our conversation, we also discuss her skin care. To prepare and freshen-up her complexion, I usually recommend at least two facials in the eight weeks leading up to the wedding. We also schedule a brow grooming and if necessary, a lash tint, a week before the wedding.

Then, when I get a definite idea of the look we want, I do her makeup as it will be on the day. Feedback from the bride is really important because I want her to be happy with how she looks. Above all, she should feel she looks like herself, but with more of a glow! I recommend that she take a photo of her face after the makeup, to see how it will look in pictures.

Part of my job during this process is to let her know that having her makeup done on the day is a chance for her to relax. Makeup is often one of the last things done before she puts on her dress, so usually there is a heightened sense of excitement around her. Closing her eyes and feeling soft brushes on her face will put her at ease.

I absolutely love doing makeup for weddings. It’s always such a joyful and fun occasion.
