It’s There…Somewhere.

I found a four-leaf clover today! Okay okay, I find four-leaf clovers every day. For some reason, every home I’ve lived in has a patch right outside the door. But I don’t just find them there, I find them at random places when I am walking. Lucky? Ehh, maybe. I feel it’s more a reminder that there is something good even when it may not seem like it. You just have to look for the good.

Skin is your largest organ. It does so many things. It protects you from the environment, it holds all of the other parts that make you great in one location, it metabolizes vitamin D, it allows you to touch, feel, hold and caress. Skin excretes toxins from the body and regulates your body’s temperature. Skin does your body good.

Most people visit estheticians regularly not because they like their skin, but because they are trying to “fix” their skin. Truth be told, we all have something that we can fix if we look closer. Enlarged pores, blackheads that won’t go away, fine lines that weren’t there yesterday, and of course the pimple that shows up right in time for the big event. All of those things can cause us to look at our skin and think, “Whew, this is bad.” But really it isn’t. You just have to remember the good.

Whenever someone has a skin concern, I do my best to provide a very kind and gentle way to correct the problem. Sometimes it’s external, such as using harmful products. Other times it is something internal such as a gluten allergy or too much sugar. No matter what the cause, it is always something that we will work together to heal. As the process goes along, I ask if clients are seeing any difference in their skin. If they don’t see it, I point it out. I notice that the skin is healing faster, there is more hydration, the hyper-pigmentation is fading, the elasticity is improving. Sometimes in spite of the flaws that are easy to notice, you need to remind yourself to look a little closer and see the good.
