In this month when many of us celebrate Thanksgiving, I’d like to acknowledge being very grateful for my professional Reiki practice at The Still Point. As you may know, Reiki therapy is a Japanese form of energy medicine.
I believe Reiki healing treatment works. More than that – I KNOW it works. I’ve experienced the healing and relaxation effects for myself and with others. At times, those effects can be very subtle, but I’ve also seen clients experience wonderful results; sometimes in a matter of minutes.
There was more than one experiencing severe knee pain which washed almost completely away after 10-15 minutes of Reiki treatment even though they had been limping, almost unable to walk just moments before; back pain “much, much better” after only 15 minutes of treatment; stomach pain that cleared after the same brief treatment; clients who each became so relaxed during a brief 10-minute session, seated upright in a chair, that their head bobbed as if falling asleep, despite a loud, live-band playing just outside the window.
I’ve seen, and personally had, it relieve the pain of a sprained toe in moments, even relieve growing pains and reduce anxiety in children in just minutes.
One client with a rotator cuff injury, was still having as much pain as she did on day-one, even after six months of physical therapy. She had gained some strength, but no pain relief. After a Reiki treatment, her pain was “much better” for a day or two and after only 5 weekly 1-hour sessions, her pain was “greatly reduced” almost the entire week between sessions. Would I recommend Reiki treatment instead of physical therapy? NEVER! Although I certainly would recommend augmenting one’s PT schedule with Reiki therapy sessions rather than waiting six months! There are no known contraindications for Reiki therapy and it is compatible with traditional western medicine as well as other alternative therapies.
Will such seemingly magical results happen for everyone in the first 10 minutes? No, but it can happen and it does with a frequency that surprises me.
Acute, longstanding or on-going issues such as pain from arthritis of the knee or injury such as the rotator cuff injury (both mentioned above) need and benefit from regular on-going treatment, but the quick pain relief these individuals experienced was amazing. Each person is unique so responses and length of treatment needed does vary. In general, a minimum of 3 sessions are needed to give one a good idea of how they respond to Reiki therapy and how it may help. The need for on-going treatments then can be evaluated with your practitioner.
Even healthy individuals can benefit from regular Reiki treatment for energy balancing, stress reduction and increased wellbeing. Also, those trained in Reiki and maintaining a daily self-practice may feel the need for periodic professional support. I know I feel relaxed, centered, but also energized after a treatment by another Reiki Master.
So, I say – Try Reiki – and you may find that it helps you too.
A sincere Thanks to everyone who’s been to see me and allowed me to share Reiki treatments with you!
