Okay, maybe it isn’t quite that dramatic, but so many of us love this holiday season and at least strongly dislike the extra stress and hectic pace that it adds to our already stressful, hectic lives. This time of year is exciting and joyful with sociable and fun occasions, but it also comes with added pressures of shopping, crowds, more traffic, traveling, stretching hard earned dollars, year-end deadlines, trying to find the time to get it all done and more. If you are one of the lucky few who doesn’t particularly feel the effects of stress of the season or in your life – keep up the good work and whatever it is that you are doing to minimize its effects in your life and on your health!
For the rest of us, it is important to find an outlet. No, yelling at the traffic absolutely does not count.
Reiki treatment is an almost effortless way to reduce the effects of stress. It can help in as a little as one hour per week. Treatment is deeply relaxing for most people. I regularly have clients tell me after a Reiki session that they are “extremely relaxed,” and even “the most relaxed [they] have felt in a long time.” Regular treatments not only help reduce the feeling and effects of stress in the short term, but many also report feeling more “centered” and better able to cope with daily stress on an ongoing basis. Stress reduction is one of the greatest benefits of Reiki treatment.
My advice, in spite of everything you have to do this season, is to do your best to schedule a little “me” time. Do something for yourself to unwind some of the stress. I know, I know, you’re thinking, “Is she crazy?” How can I possibly make the time for that too? The truth is stress takes a HUGE toll on our heart, mind and body and with the added pressures of the season, it is even more important. Find something that won’t break the budget and do something relaxing for yourself; not to be selfish, but for your heath. Get a massage, get an acupuncture treatment, take a yoga or meditation class, or try Reiki. It doesn’t have to cost much; there are many discounted specials this time of year like buy a gift card and get a discount on a service, or you can just buy a yoga DVD, or even download a new guided meditation to start or renew your interest.
Investing in your health and well-being on a regular basis, not just a special occasion treat, can have a more profound effect, but we can save that talk for when we get to New Year’s Resolutions! In the meantime, add yourself to your Holiday To Do List. Yes, it’s one more thing. Yes, it will take a little time. Yes, it will take a little effort, but I truly believe you’ll feel better for it. And, it just may help you remain (at least relativity) calm while you get everything else done. You might even have more energy and enjoy doing all the other stuff on your list!
WISHING YOU & YOURS – HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
