A Different Kind of Happy Hour

Per the book “The Origin of Everyday Things”, the U.S. Navy is the origin of Happy Hour. During the 1920s, “Happy Hour” was a scheduled entertainment period on board a ship during which boxing and wrestling bouts took place. Sailors used this entertainment to de-stress from being at sea.

The term was also used during Prohibition on land, as visits to “speakeasies” before dinner were common, since alcohol was not served in restaurants. (You can delve deep into this era by watching the new Ken Burns documentary “Prohibition” on PBS, which I’ve found fascinating.)

Here at the Still Point, I certainly want to support people’s need to relax, take a break, and refresh before finishing the rest of the work week. That’s why I (and my colleague Justine in Takoma Park) offer Acupuncture Happy Hour.

At 6:30pm on Wednesdays (hump-day, of course), you can come to The Still Point in Clarksville and receive a deeply relaxing treatment. This treatment is done in chairs and I can treat up to 6 people at a time. Once the needles are in, you get a good 45 minutes to relax, feel calmer and let the needles do their work. This is a treatment that has been successfully used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder for people returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. If it works for them, your fear and loathing of the Beltway should be no problem.

Want to have an interesting experience with your coworkers? Or maybe a night out with a friend, or an acu-date with a spouse? With this treatment, no one has to be left out. You can make it a group event, and, in fact, this treatment works better when you bring a friend. Yes, really!

Come on out to The Still Point on Wednesday nights for a Happy Hour of a different sort. We won’t tell if you have a drink with dinner afterwards.
